Australian Response Group FAQ’s

Building Response

How long will my insurance repairs take?

At the commencement of every project, you will be appointed a designated  Supervisor who will provide you a schedule for the repairs. Every repair will vary depending on weather, material available and complexity of the repair.

If there is additional damage found during my repairs, can this be added to the scope and my signed contract?

Yes, if any unforeseen damages are found during the repairs and deemed to be covered under your policy then a variation can be submitted. This can then be added to the scope of works once the approval has been given by your insurer.

Can I pay my excess to Building Response Australia?

Yes, in some cases your insurer will request that Building Response Australia collects your excess. We then deduct this amount from our final invoice to your insurer at the completion of the repairs.

Why are you only doing a Make Safe, and not permanently fixing the cause?

When your claim is lodged through your insurer,  Building Response Australia will be engaged to ensure that the property is still safe/ habitable and attempt to prevent further loss.

Roofing Response

What products do Roofing Response Australia use on my property?

Roofing Response Australia only use Bluescope Steel products (Colorbond® and Zincalume®). Bluescope steel offer a warranty on their material for up to 25 years.

Are your roofers qualified?

How long does a roof replacement take?

In most cases, the entire process is around a week, from safety rail going up, roof replacement,  rail coming down and rubbish removed from the site. However, every job is different and has many different factors to consider.

  • Weather
  • Is platform scaffold required
  • Material availability
  • Access

How do I choose my roof colour?

There are a few things to consider when choosing a roof colour.  1/ Suited to the local area, 2/ Suit your house colour scheme 3/ The darker the colour can change the way the heat is absorbed and how it is reflected 4/ Future buyers.

If unsure, one of our supervisors can attend with a Colourbond colour card which shows you small off-cuts of the Colourbond range steel and can give you a true colour indication to assist.

What if it rains during my roof replacement?

During the scheduling process, our experienced team will regularly be monitoring the weather forecast to ensure we reduce the risk of being caught out. If there is a chance of rain we remove the roof piece by piece allowing protection to your home. This would give us time to ensure your home is water tight and not at risk of leaking.

Restoration Response

What does a restoration company do?

Restoration companies are the first responders when a disaster strikes. They’re there to help when significant damage happens to a home, whether the damage is fire, water, sewage backup, or a whole host of other problems. Restoration companies clean up the mess and work to preserve and protect the home from further damage.

Can a general contractor remove mould?

We would not recommend it. Most of the time, general contractors reach out to a restoration company to do work with mould, as it requires specialised equipment and knowledge.

Are there different kinds of water?

Category 1 Water Damage: Clean Water Damage

Category 1 is the least severe on the IICRC scale, and includes water damage such as broken pipes and water supply lines, sinks and bathtubs which have overflowed, and various appliance issues. The main reason this type of damage is considered less severe is that it involves “clean water,” i.e. water that is sewage and toxin-free. Typically, most items damaged in category 1 incidents can be dried easily without and potential side effects for the property owner later on.

Category 2 Water Damage: Grey Water Damage

Category 2 water damage involves “grey water.” This includes water from appliances like toilets, washing machines, and sump pump backups. While consuming or coming into contact with grey water may or may not be harmful to humans, it is important to remove any affected items and disinfect completely if your home has been struck by category 2 water damage, as the waste and chemicals in grey water may prove harmful down the line.

Category 3 Water Damage: Black Water Damage

Category 3 water damage, aka “black water” damage, is the most extreme kind of water damage and requires swift action to mitigate serious health risks. Black water includes sewage, rising flood waters, seawater, as well as river and ground water. When category 3 water damage occurs, many items and materials will need to be removed from your property, and after drying has occurred your home will need to undergo significant disinfecting.
